Shear-induced platelet activation in the modeled device for auxiliary blood circulation FDA Blood Pump

Spatio-temporal distribution of activated platelets in the modeled device FDA Blood Pump

The object of the study is FDA Blood PUMP. This benchmark model was created by FDA for the purposes of developing standards of testing blood-contacting devices. It is seen that shear-induced platelet activation mostly appears in zones near the pump blades and cutwater region, where the shear stress reaches overcritical values.

The object of the study on this video is the model of auxiliary blood circulation FDA Blood Pump. The video presents dynamics of hydrodynamic activation of platelets in the FDA Blood Pump (the cut of the device is perpendicular to the OZ axis). Concentrations of activated platelets are shown in color.
